Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) sometimes called Indian saffron or the golden spice, is a tall herbaceous plant in the ginger family Zingiberaceae, which is native to tropical South Asia. India produces nearly all of the world’s turmeric crop and consumes 80% of it. With its inherent qualities and high content of the important bioactive compound curcumin, Indian turmeric is considered to be the best in the world. [5]

It has a very long history of medicinal use, dating back nearly 4000 years, being widely used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. Modern medicine has begun to recognize its importance, as indicated by the over 3000 publications dealing with turmeric that came out within the last 25 years. More than 100 components have been isolated from turmeric. The main component of the root is a volatile oil, containing turmerone, and there are other coloring agents called curcuminoids in turmeric. Curcuminoids consist of curcumin demethoxycurcumin, 5’-methoxycurcumin, and dihydrocurcumin, which are found to be natural antioxidants. [5] †

The activities of turmeric include antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant, antiseptic, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, radioprotective, and digestive activities. Phytochemical analysis of turmeric has revealed a large number of compounds, including curcumin, volatile oil, and curcuminoids, which have been found to have potent pharmacological properties. Curcumin is the powerful phytochemical (aka: phytonutrient) component that gives turmeric its distinctive bright yellow color. [5, 6]

Some of the roles and benefits of turmeric include (but not limited to) [6]:

  • Turmeric’s most common traditional use has been to promote proper digestion.
  • Curcumin stimulates production of bile by the gallbladder. Bile eliminates toxins in the liver and rejuvenates cells that break down harmful compounds.
  • Curcumin is recognized for its anti-oxidative effects.
  • Promotes joint health
  • Reduces osteoarthritis symptoms
  • Supports memory and brain function
  • Improves Brain Function
  • Protects against mental diseases
  • Reduces chronic stress, anxiety and depression
  • Promotes cardiovascular health
  • Boosts immunity
  • Protects the liver from toxic compounds
  • Increases antioxidant capacity of the body
  • Supports healthy cholesterol levels.
  • Drastically Lowers Blood Sugars
  • Improve Heart Disease Risk Factors
  • Studies show Curcumin may even be useful in preventing and treating cancer and Alzheimer’s disease
  • In parts of Asia turmeric water is applied as a cosmetic to lend a golden glow to the complexion.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties: turmeric is sometimes consumed as a tea or in pill form for a variety of ailments, including arthritis and intestinal problems
  • Adaptogen properties: recognized by Western Bioscience, a study revealed that it is a potent herb that can help fight chronic stress and return the body to homeostasis.
    • Adaptogens operate at the level of the overall body system by helping maintain balance in the substances and processes running in the human body (ie: they literally adapt to what your body needs).
    • Both in independent clinical trials and in thousands of years of traditional use, the root is the part of the plant that is used as adaptogen predominantly, and it is on far better foundation in terms of scientific studies and human clinical evidence than the use of leaves extract.

***To get the most health benefit of this herb, you need more than an occasional sprinkle of turmeric, so a supplement may be the way to go***

How Does Dr. Kenawy’s Turmeric Extract Formula featuring Curcumin C3 Complex compare to Curcumin products?

Curcumin is a flavonoid obtained from turmeric, the ground rhizomes of Curcuma longa L. Curcumin has been reported to possess a wide range of healthful uses in traditional Indian (Ayurveda, Unani & Siddha) systems of health care. Curcumin C3 Complex contains curcumin and the other 2 curcuminoids (ie: demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin). These 2 compounds stabilize curcumin. Studies of turmeric derivatives noted that the other 2 compounds are more efficient to protect from oxidative stress than curcumin alone. Curcumin C3 Complex is more soluble because of bisdemethoxycurcumin. Therefore, Curcumin C3 Complex is more absorbable in the gastrointestinal tract and provides more health benefits than curcumin alone. [4]

As with all of Dr. Kenawy's professional line products, we use the best manufactures in making our formulas. Dr. Kenawy’s formula is made using patented compounds creating Curcumin C3 Complex® , the gold standard of all Turmeric Root Extracts available in the market today with the most active form of Curcumin (minimum 95% Curcuminoids) backed by more than 80 Scientific Studies.
